Winter has arrived.

Greetings from a beautifully cold Bettys Bay as we close off the first half of 2020.  Winter arrived on Friday and made her presence felt in a very dramatic fashion with the winds picking up throughout the night until just past noon on Saturday, apparently the gusts were measured to be up to 166 km per hour which folks let me say, is very strong.  Hubby experienced some concern with the deck roof and if would stay on, it did and is still looking strong and sturdy even though we could at one point see it 'vibrating' with the stronger gusts, added to all  this we also had very heavy rains.  I, and this is my personal opinion, truly don't think the weather gauge catches all the rain because, when it is blowing horizontal there is no way the drops are all going to fall into that little space hehe. Praise the Lord apart from one fence pole which is leaning somewhat sideways and my circular drying ring on the washing line being m.i.a. we were not affected negatively, ohhh .... the roof did spring a few leaks due to the wind being so strong it blew the water far into the roof.

Well on a less dramatic note last week is not one I am in a hurry to repeat, on Tuesday we had to be in Belville by 10.00 which meant leaving home at 8 allowing for traffic.  Because Charlie has very real separation anxiety I decided to take him with and gave him a Calm Eaze pill before we left ..... that didn't work, we were just past Rooi Els when he said goodbye to his breakfast (thankfully I had a towel with me). Three vomits later we arrived at our destination and I was able to walk him around a bit and he was then fine, the short story is he gets motion sickness and I now (only after Tuesday) have found a solution for it for the future.  I felt so sorry for him because he adores being out and about and in every other respect travels really well.  Seeing as we were out we decided to do ALL the catch up shopping that had been on hold since lockdown started, Jelly Bean spent about an hour in the bookshop stocking up, we collected medications, anthracite, dog food, you name it we had a full day and only got home after 16.30, absolutely exhausted, dirty and feeling very unsanitised LOL.  I am not moving beyond local borders for the foreseeable future that is for sure.  The rest of the week was spent with Hubby building an A frame book shelf for someone and working on watches which just continue to come in.  I decided that I could not bear looking at all the cushion materials any longer and despite being in a bad flare (after Tuesday), I knuckled down and got sewing.  OH my word, I have said to Hubby and Jelly Bean that when it comes to the cushions for the deck I will pay someone to make them.  By Friday I had finished all 6 big cushions - I 're-purposed' the backs of the old cushions which had zips in, had to dye two backs which were extra, remake new inner covers for some that were shredded because of age and so on,   anyway they were done and I was so excited.  Saturday Hubby and I then opened all the inners and 're-puffed' the filler before stitching them closed again.  I know.......... I made it so complicated 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.  When I had finished putting them on the chairs I thought , well, while the machine is still out I will 'just stitch' the smaller covers together and then sometime this week finish them off.  🤣🤣.  Yeah right......... once I got started I thought I may as well just do it all.  Eventually after 18.00 on Saturday night I finished the very last cushion, also re-used the zips from the old cushions and re-puffed the inners.  NEVER AGAIN I tell you.  I realized towards evening that I was probably pushing myself a bit but had no idea just how badly I would pay.  My back which had been twingeing since Tuesday's fun and games was seriously sore, then at 03.30 Sunday I woke up in such pain I did not know which way to lie.  When we got up in the morning I could not get my right leg to go forward properly because of the spasm, urghhh.  Eventually after asking on our local Group if the Clinic Sister at the chemist worked on Sundays, she does not, Hubby went into Kleinmond and managed to buy a Voltaren ampoule as well one to relax the muscles and our local Paramedic in Pringle Bay very kindly came out and injected me.  I am still waiting for the Voltaren to kick in as i write this.  Hmmmmmm cushions look pretty but not worth the pain haha.
Now I will be thinking of my next project 👏🏻👏🏻👀

I am not going to say the Q***** word but apart from a looong overdue Hairdresser appointment on Tuesday I am going to have a good week hehe.   Folks that is some of the highs and lows of this last week, I wish you all a wonderful week, may you be blessed in unexpected ways.  Thank you for your continued support and encouragement on this Blog, stay warm, stay safe and stay healthy. Ciao ciao for now.

What a week !!

Well, another week come and gone and to be honest at this point in time each week feels exactly the same, when I look at a calendar and see that we are hovering towards the end of June, I still feel like I am back in about April.  Hopefully I am not the only one who feels like this.  Good morning all !

Our week began in the best way possible, with a visit from the Bears on their way home.  Oh my word it did me good to see them, chat and catch up on months of news, share some meals and hugs and literally just let my heart feast on family.   I was also truly blessed as they brought down a 'new'  mobile phone for me which a family member had on hand having upgraded at the beginning of lockdown.  Oooooh I am so spoilt - every time Jelly Bean looks at it she turns a few shades of green.  Thank YOU so much for the gift, you know who you are.  In the light of that I spent a lot of hours just sorting the phone out and setting it to my personal taste, I don't think I have even scratched the surface of what it is capable of and am still getting used to the odd noises and sounds but, watch out for some really good pics hopefully.  It has been like going from a manual typewriter to a golf ball electric one. 😁😁

From there I can honestly say that the week took a left turn down the hill.  Contrary to what I said last week our Medical Aid is far from sorted out but that is another matter altogether.  To backtrack a little,  on Sunday evening unbeknown to us our dear Houdini a.k.a. Max ran away after digging a hole under the fence and leaving his jacket in the hole.  We received a phone call early Monday morning from a couple who had picked him up running in the main road shivering and sopping wet.  They had kept him warm overnight and were in Hermanus and said they would bring him back shortly.  Well ......... shortly turned out to be 6pm and numerous calls and messages later, I will admit to having being extremely stressed about the whole situation, it just felt wrong on all levels.   Anyway they did eventually drop him off and he is safe and sound, one would think he is getting too old for this type of escapade.  I also knuckled down and got started on my lounge cushions which have been awaiting re-covering since lockdown began, pics will follow hopefully next week.

Well folks, winter is still just a threat down here in the Cape, apart from last weekend.  I see that more cold fronts are predicted from Wednesday onwards and can only pray they will continue to keep rolling in bringing with them rain and the much needed cold weather.
I am sure that along with many of you, I was absolutely delighted to receive a message from my Hairdresser yesterday telling me when she will be open and making my appointment for next week whoop whoop.  LOL in her message she said she was opening and IF I needed to see her, I replied instantly that it wasn't a case of if, it is a case of 'miracle intervention needed'.

On that note I am going to bid you farewell friends and family, I pray you have a good week, please take care of yourselves and stay healthy and safe.  Ciao Ciao

What a week !

Good morning one and all, I hope today's Blog finds everyone well and ready for the new week.   Hopefully this week is not going to be anything like last week although early indications are questionable.  As I sit typing this I am doing it on my phone...... yes,  you read correctly.  For some reason I can only type the title on my iPad and nothing more.  This Blog site was upgraded two weeks ago and I am praying this is just a temporary glitch.

Wow, last week ? Where to start - with the weather I guess, we had loads of warning and ample time to prepare for the very intense cold front that slammed into the country on Wednesday morning about 2 am.  From wearing sleeveless shirts and open shoes we went to having a fire going, gale force winds and 43 mm of rain in the space of 24 hours.  It was absolutely wonderful to be able to put our feather duvet on the bed and sit warm and cosy with the fire burning away and the rain belting down.   It has rained on and off since Friday but the temperatures haven't risen out of the teens.   In fact I think it is one of the coldest times I remember, listening to up country reports of -13 c in Barley East and lower than that in Lesotho.  We dropped to 7 c indoors which is cold for us.

It was a bit of a crazy week in the sense that a lot happened with not much to show for it.  I had a huge hiccup with our Medical Aid as we moved over in April and going from a private MA to a public one is extremely different and stressful. When I received the Invoice for my Blood tests and Dr's Consultation I noticed that everything that has been paid out since April has been taken off the Savings portion.  URGHHH.  It was a LOT of phone calls and emails to the MA as well as to our GP who had to complete Chronic Condition Forms, before it was corrected.  The miracle was,  I had  asked for the funds to be reallocated once the forms were received and was told it would have to go before a special Board which even then might not agree.  On Friday I received an email showing ALL the previous claims backdated and correctly assigned and our Savings being credited.  Thank You Father God.

In amongst all this was the usual day to day stuff and then I had a brain wave to tackle some clothing I needed to alter.  I will say that it did take me the entire day but I scored a whole 'new' outfit and am extremely chuffed with that.  Many moons ago BigBear purchased a fantastic fleece top with a hoodie,  I loved it from the moment I saw it and used to tease him saying "when it has puppies I want one".  Well it didn't have puppies but he gave me the top a good few years ago and because the ribbing was in a very sad state as well as the white being discoloured I never sorted it out, until Wednesday.   Now, I have a bright black and white, big, warm, smart top to wear (with brand new ribbing on the cuffs and hem)🖒😆

Friday was Princess's 17th Birthday and I am still trying to  get my head and round the fact that she is 17, where does the time go?  I can remember the day she was born as if it were yesterday.  Her 'surprise' of the day was a very quick get together with her Uncles and Aunt as the 'Bears' flew up to Johannesburg early Friday morning to pack up the house BabyBear had been staying in whilst working there.  After that they met with Big Guy, Poppet and Princess at a petrol garage LOL for a  quick cup of coffee standing in the freezing cold in the parking area.  I was SO jealous and emotional.  From there the 'Bears' left for Vanderbijl Park for the night to see Baby Bear's Dad and then onward to Bloemfontein on Saturday to see her Mom.  They left early this morning on the last leg of their homeward bound journey and will stop over tonight with us WHOOP WHOOP.  They had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get the necessary Affidavits to make the trip, but gosh it is so worth it just to be able to spend a few hours together, and for them to have seen all the South African immediate families. There is much to be done today with a special meal for dinner so I am not going to go on much longer, it's also difficult doing this all on a Cel phone 😅😅

I am aiming for a good week, but I do want to encourage you with this in closing.  God wants to be involved in EVERY aspect of your life, irrespective of how insignificant you might think it is. I see His hand on a daily basis even down to simplifying and correcting a Medical Aid  error.  All He asks is that we ask and trust Him to fulfill his perfect will in our lives .

I pray you each has a week of good health, miracles where they are needed,  a closer walk with your Heavenly Father and opportunities to share His Love and kindness with others and around you.  Ciao ciao #stayhome #staysafe

Exciting news !!

Good morning beautiful people, I hope this finds you all well.  Not too much news from our side this week on the domestic front apart from the usual. I did a mass of  washing as the weather predicted for this week is going to be fantastic for everything except getting washing dry.  We are in for gales in excess of 100kph, much rain, lots of very cold temps and apparently a good amount of snow across the country, with that in mind on Saturday all the dogs were bathed, apart from the fact they really needed it, all throws, dog towels and bedding was washed to stay ahead of the cold front.  It is such fun bathing Charlie as he goes in looking like a dirty perm and comes out looking like a white Pom Pom hehehe, the little hooligan has discovered the joy of digging holes 🤦🏻‍♀️🐩.

This week sees our beautiful Princess turn 17 ......... can you believe it? I truly feel like she just grew up overnight,  she will always be my 'little' princess.  Yep the big day is on Friday and I sooo wish we could be there to celebrate with her, I remember as if it were yesterday the moment they put her into my arms a few minutes after she was born - there was this huge dimple and gorgeous eyes looking up at me #nostalgia.  To Poppet I have to doff my cap and say "well done my love, you have raised an incredible young lady, who is a true testimony to your love and  mothering over the last 17 years".  Happy Birthday my Angel.

Great news just in, hot off the press is ............. BabyBear is moving back home to CT after 18 long months of being based in Johannesburg for her job.   A good thing to come from CoVid19 is that it has shown her company that she is just as able to do her job from CT as from Jhb.  Welcome home BabyBear.  There will still be travel involved but at least her home base is with her husband and not 1500 Kim's away.  You guys really handled this season well, with grace and faith and I truly believe God is  honouring that commitment, now it is your season.  Please keep them in your prayers as they travel (with the necessary Affidavit) to Jhb on Friday to pack up the townhouse and, then see all the family in Johannesburg, Vanderbijl Park, Bloemfontein AND US on the way home.  Whoop whoop I am so excited I have no words, it feels like forever since we've seen them and it is going to be the treat of treats to see them.  Big Guy, Poppet and Princess enjoy your time with them and please all have a special group hug from me.  I love and miss you all beyond words 💕

One of the biggest challenges we have had this past week is with the mice who insist on drinking the sugar water for the birds.  Apart from the fact I'm worried they will all become diabetic, they scare the birds away and, Jelly Bean has a very real phobia with mice and rats so, seeing them up on the pole drinking water every time she comes into the room has caused a lot of anxiety.  Hubby tried a couple of amendments to the feeder, but these little blighters are relentless and always seemed to find a way up. Then on Saturday he tried our latest idea (see pic below) which so far appears to be working and causing a lot of confusion for the mice, so here is holding thumbs that they will relocate to places anywhere else.

Folks, apart from all the above, it was not a quiet week but then, those are very rare.  I am looking forward to the rain and cold which is on its way and plan to do some quick baking of rusks - I swear that tin has a huge hole in it  👀🍪, and hopefully I can fit in some Biscotti as well.  I have a niggling feeling that I also need to make each of the dogs a second jacket hmmmmmmm, I'll see.

Whatever you do, wherever you go this week please stay masked, distanced, sanitized, well and healthy.  With love from BB to you and yours Ciao Ciao.

Change is good.

Wow it's the 1st of June and I am still trying to figure out what happened to March, April and May.  Good morning everybody, congratulations we have all made it thus far.  This will surely go down as one of the weirdest, most confusing years of our lifetime.  As of today South Africa enters Level 3 of CoVid19 lockdown, with the very imminent possibility of 'any' area being pushed back to a higher Level if and when needed.  Today does bring about the chance though, for everyone to re-stock their personal liquor stocks, which I am guessing is of great excitement to many hehe. Certain Grades of schooling were supposed to start back today in a staggered approach, but it was announced yesterday that all those plans are on hold, so apart from purchasing Liquor, all retail and wholesale shops being opened, the evening curfew has been lifted and we can now exercise at any time of the day.  However no interstate traveling or even inter-municipal district  travel for that matter is allowed.  I have now reached the point that I am not reading or listening to the never ending updates and news being put out, I am however, looking forward to taking Charlie for a walk at long last.

We had a fabulous week weather wise, mostly gale force winds and some fairly decent rains which saw us at long last dig into our winter wardrobe, yaaaay.  It amazes me how the wind always sounds stronger at night and then how used to the noise one becomes.  It was only at lunchtime on Thursday I think, that I realized how quiet the world had become, the wind had dropped and all of a sudden I became aware of the bird calls, the waves and ....... silence.

It was a a fairly busy week for me in catching up with household and domestic chores and necessities.  On Friday we were up before the sun in order for me to get to the Pharmacy Sister for my annual blood tests early, they are fasting tests.  It was cold, half dark and raining but I presented myself at the appropriate time whilst Hubby dear went ahead and did the weekly shop.  Once in the Sister's room, sleeve rolled up and feeling as nauseous as could be, she read the list and then went "ohhhh", not a good sound to me.  It would appear that two extra tests were called for which needed to be put into a centrifuge within the hour. Grrrrrr all that effort and build up and I had do do it all over again today, twelve vials later..... I shall say no more 🤐🤐.  All this in the effort of trying to carry on life as it used to be but with a lot of differences and resultant issues, also due to the travel restrictions I will be having a telephonic/virtual consultation with my Dr, such fun !!!!

I have steadily been working on the bedroom makeover, we recovered our headboard on Saturday, which left me with a decision as to what to cover the cushions with.  Thank goodness for Jelly Bean, she looked, she thought and then she said "keep it white ".  perfect,  it has given me that missing element because I have brought in some 'old chic' with  pillow slips from an old duvet set.   Now Hubby dearest just needs to frame my picture and we are almost done.  What got added to the make-over list yesterday was our bathroom.  My bright eyed Husband saw an add on the local buy and sell Group for a gorgeous wooden possibly oak)  bathroom cabinet and wooden fittings.  Hmmmmm that got me thinking.  Our bathroom has dark slate tiles on the floor and in the shower, then a panel behind the basin, three dark tiles wide, floor to ceiling.  A bit of Googling and we have decided that I will paint those tiles, behind the basin, either white or light grey.
This very talented husband of mine also put the last IBR  sheet in place on Saturday so now, the next step is the facias and closing in the sides directly below the roof with glass.  Our deck is starting to look extremely smart and is going to be THE most amazing space.

The family are all good and from what I hear all extremely busy, it seems as if it is heads down and don't stop for all of them, which is fabulous given the times we are in.  Princess had her first session with the Bio-kinetisist on Friday for her shoulder. Miss Muffet and her family all seem to be enjoying their coming summer and the sunny, longer days and their  garden is looking like a show piece.

Well folks, I think that about covers my week, who knows what this coming one has in store for us, one thing I am assured of, is it will not be dull, I haven't even shared the latest shenanigans of the pets on today's Blog hehe.  Have a wonderful week and pleas stay safe and stay masked.  Ciao ciao .
