What fun was had .....

Top of the morning to you all, I hope today's Blog finds everyone well and ready for the new week.  I would certainly be happy with a slightly 'quieter' week after all the fun and games of the last seven days.

It started early on Monday evening after all our medications had been delivered and I duly distributed them accordingly (it's not that different to a grocery shop 😃). I usually try and do a completely meatless meal on mondays and had made a big quiche, just as I finished dishing up my Hubby walked through saying "Charlie is playing with an empty pill bottle (can you see where this is going ?), after a seconds thought I asked where he had found it and asked that Hubby take it away, as he did so I suddenly had a another thought and we checked the date on the now completely mangled plastic bottle.  You guessed it ......... this little horror had found Hubby's pills - I did not put them on the bedside table as Zeepha would swat them off so I put the entire lot under the quilt, hmmmmm clearly I can never do that again.  We discovered two bottles chewed up, one was Warfarin and the other Trepilene, both deadly to anyone at the wrong dose and especially to a 4 kg toy poodle.  Quiche forgotten we then started hunting and counting tablets, we came up short on both then found the missing Warfarin, it took a little longer to find all 30 Trepeline, all the time I was praying with my brain running six steps ahead.  All 60 were recovered thank the Lord, scattered all over the bed and surrounds 🤦🏻‍♀️. FYI  Quiche not quite as nice when reheated hehe.
Pretty much the rest of the week was spent with Hubby working on various projects and me getting sorted and ready to begin my quilt - it's like making a Breyani, SOOO much prep to do beforehand before actually sitting down to sew or, if it's the breyani put it in the oven to do its own thing.  Hubby also went through to Cape Town on Monday to deliver a gorgeous A frame book shelf commissioned by the 'Bears' and then on to purchase spares needed for all the watches and clocks, there is usually a fairly steady flow of people hooting at the gate, either collecting or delivering their timepiece.
On Wednesday I dragged Jelly Bean out of the house to go to the shops with me, Hubby had a Physio appointment and that gave me 45 minutes to get to two shops, a second hand bookshop and the haberdashery where I got the last things I required  - needless to say Jelly Bean did not enjoy the trip but we did everything with time to spare.
On Friday I went to call the dogs in and discovered a big hole in the mesh of the fence, I kid you not, see pic below.  At some time during the week Hubby and I had quickly popped down the road to collect a book from a local lady and I left Charlie behind as I was only going to be 10 minutes ............ not such a great idea (it was my week for failed ideas.)  We can only assume that in desperation he chewed right through the mesh and was busy hopping in and out but thankfully not going further than the gate.  That meant the whole of Saturday morning was taken up with my patient husband replacing and repairing the fence with new mesh, wire this time.  On Friday early evening I took some washed doggie towels through to the garage where Hubby was working and on the way back inside I tripped on the top step which sent me bouncing off the wall and then falling flat, as usual my knees and hands took the brunt of it and apart from a graze or two and a seriously sore/stiff body I am fine.  No one heard me except for Charlie who was inside and when I suddenly landed on the ground in front of him but on the other side of the glass door he was jumping up and down barking like a mad thing, my faithful little pal, but  .... Eish seriously !!!  Due to being stiff and sore we/ I had a super quiet weekend resting, cooking and going more than halfway on my first quilt square 😁.
The family are all doing well and very busy which is an answer to prayer, there are still lots of challenges in the work and school environment, but I have to stand on God's Word that He never has and never will desert us.  Our two little grandsons in London got their reports for the end of their school year as well as the eldest turning the big 10.  Well done boys on working so hard at school and for all the good behavior, now time to enjoy your summer holiday.  Mr Muffet fell off his bike on Friday morning and fortunately also had no further damage other than grazes etc, thanks for keeping me company R. 😂

Well folks in a nutshell those are the 'highlights' of the week and I go into this coming one with ever constant positive thoughts and plans.  I wish you all a blessed week, filled with good things, stay safe and stay well.  Ciao ciao

From one extreme to the other.

Good morning folks, I hope this finds you all well and happy.  It would appear that living down here winter this year is determined to be inconsistent, from freezing cold and gale force winds by Wednesday we had sunny skies, no wind, enormous waves far out to sea which were about 12 - 15 m high, two days later the sea was like a pond and the temperatures much warmer - we now have all year round clothes. No winter wardrobe and summer wardrobe hehe.

A good week on the whole was had by all in this house, we accomplished a lot and I actually managed to pace myself fairly well.  On Tuesday I took a deep breath and removed Jelly Bean's stitches (she had cut herself very badly about 10 days before) this was definitely a first for me, but I did not hurt her and got them all out smoothly.  🙌🏻  Princess went back to school, although I don't know if it is going to last as they seem to be going every second day and have already had 6 positive cases.  Hats off to her though for keeping up with and totally abreast with all her school work, well done angel.   The usual frustrations of working from home during lockdown were heightened this week for Big Guy, Poppet and Princess as  the country now has load shedding added to all the other things.  For some reason Gauteng seems to be having beyond normal hours of load shedding / power outages.  In the last week Poppet calculated that apart from load shedding they had in total 30 hours of no electricity, it is quite ridiculous and beyond annoying at the best of times, made much worse for all those trying to work and meet deadlines.

Hubby moved quite a few watches in and out so has been busy on that side, he also installed a Polycarbonate awning over our 'front' door in an effort to stop some of the rain coming in AND to keep us 3% drier when trying to get into the house hahaha, hard when the rain comes in horizontally during a gale.  Aesthetically it also makes a big difference to that side of the house, silicone was also applied to some problem windows - the north side of our house, facing the mountain, takes the brunt of the storms and it doesn't take much for water to get into places it shouldn't'.  A number of people in the Village reported  roof pieces blown off, sliding glass doors blown in and cracked or shattered, some even had the aluminum door / window frames were bent and buckled  I spent a crazy amount of time trying to prepare myself for actually making an embroidered quilt, who would think it would be so hard to find out what type of batting to use and if crochet thread can be used ....... good grief. The fabric shops were hopeless and just passed me from one to the other.  At one point I emailed the Quilters Guild down here and was blown away when not one but two ladies phoned me, even though both recommended different things 😂😂.  The second lady went out of her way to advise me and is apparently also starting a candle wicked quilt, she was kind enough to send me pics of some of her squares.  I really have to say they seem to be a very friendly group of ladies.  After ALL the research I have finalized what I will use and thanks to lockdown and the 'new' way of shopping have asked my ever patient Hubby to make two stops for me today on his way into Cape Town to deliver the wooden A frame shelves that he made.  He will be supplied with photos of exactly what I need and who to speak to 🤞🏻. In the meantime I took two old pillowcases and traced a design onto them and have used them to practice on, which has been fun.  In all my searching I came across a picture of an embroidery stand on Pinterest (I didn't know such a thing even existed) and this VERY talented man of mine promptly sat down on Saturday and made me one, it is amazing - completely adjustable, folds flat and even has a tray so that my trusty sewing pest, ooops assistant, Zeepha cannot swipe things off the surface.  See pics at the end.  In my opinion he could sell these, they will be perfect for embroidery and even for small paintings.
Apart from Zeepha's new passion for sewing and Max making two escapes, taking Sasha with him, the menagerie are all well along with their human slaves.

Well friends and family, that is most of my news and highlights for the week.  With all that is going on in this country and in the world I would just like to encourage you with this thought. Every day is a challenge on many different levels, as hard as it can be try and keep your focus on the positives, even if you have to switch off the news.  It is up to each one of us to keep ourselves well, calm and posigive.  The same God who parted the sea for Moses is still on the throne and will part the seas of turbulence and uncertainty for YOU, if you will only ask Him in faith.
Have a blessed week and please stay well, stay healthy and stay safe.  Ciao ciao.

The Cape of Storms !!!!!!

Good morning one and all from a VERY windy part of the country.  Good golly gosh what a week in terms of the weather, when Bartolomeu Dias named the Cape the "Cape of Storms" in the 1480's he was telling the truth.  This last week we have gone from clear sunny skies and not a breath of wind to gale force winds on Thursday night and 58mm of rain (in our gauge) in less that 24 hours.  In total we have had 78 mm up until yesterday which dawned silent, cloudless and cold, by lunch time the wind started picking up and became a very healthy gale with massive gusts throughout the night.  I did notice this morning that the metal flue/bird on our neighbours chimney is now missing, we will go looking for it when things die down hehe.

Weather apart it was a good week 😁, I managed to catch up with my life as such and, even took time for some recovery and rest.  My ever busy Hubby as always, was working on watches and various things in his garage, at times I am surprised to see him come out unscathed.  That garage is a minefield of various things, equipment, machines and who knows what, walking through is a carefully calculated risk and only he knows where most things are.  Although I did prove him wrong over the weekend .... I had asked him to put an old duvet cover away for future use and I now want to start doing some embroidery using that material.  When I asked him to bring it in he vowed and declared it was not there and neither had he seen it ...... hmmmm I knew it was there as well as my big embroidery hoop.  Eventually yesterday during load shedding we went in together to look and I spied my small embroidery hood hanging on a nail 🤷🏻‍♀️, then after unsuccessfully looking for the bigger one I started scratching around looking for the 'not there' duvet cover.  Not four minutes later I unearthed it from under a box and in a box - victory !!!!!!
On Saturday with our third cold front destined to make landfall late yesterday AND because Charlie somehow managed to convert his jacket into a skirt which he piddled  on, I decided to make him a second jacket.  Such fun, truly.  I took an old track suit top which Poppet handed down years ago and cut the sleeve off thereby successfully turning it into a spiffy jacket for the shorn doggie.  Yesterday morning for the first time in weeks I woke up actually wanting to be creative, I baked some cappuccino muffins and then turned my mind to making Max and Sasha each a spare jacket.  When I made the first lot I had one which was for Sasha but ended up too small so, fired by my success with Charlie's I started with that and with some minor alteration converted it into a nice one for Max, just by hand stitching (I am too scared to sit in front of the sewing machine just yet as my back is still tweaking) - it came out like a charm.  Next I moved onto Sasha and had to start from scratch as she is bigger than the boys, I started off by cutting it out, planning to do the same as Max.  Hubby very kindly zig zagged it all around on the machine and when I got to fitting and hand stitching, copying Max's was not going to work ......... so I 'winged it' and it worked. All three are different and yet all fit beautifully and we now have spares to wash and wear. 👏🏻  I am pretty chuffed to say the least.  Whilst I was busy Hubby was checking and doing minor repairs to the roof, sealing our front door (again), he also shortened the bird feeder by 5cm as he was struggling to reach.  All in all I would say we have had a productive week/end.
During the week I saw an advert for a Fresh Box delivery from one of the farms who actually deliver to BB (can you believe it AND no delivery fee) so we put in an order for their basic box and Oh WOW what a pleasure.  They delivered on Friday in the heavy rain ☔️ this beautiful box of fresh produce arrived plus ciabatta bread, a frozen lasagne, beef burger patties, chicken fillets, citrus, granadillas and eggs.  In total four meals just straight off the bat and then a recipe card with ideas for further meals using the box's ingredients.  I could SO get used to this and every week the contents change as well as the variety of boxes that can be ordered whoop, whoop.  It worked out perfectly because on Friday morning when Hubby went shopping, the Spar in Kleinmond was closed for deep cleaning, sadly the number of CoVid 19 cases in Klmd has sky rocketed.  This ended up with him doing a 'top up' shop at the O.K.Bazaars, my mind is working overtime to be able to get the box regularly and just use the local store for cleaning, dairy and dry groceries.

Well folks, and enough of me rambling on,  we are having incredibly high winds, all the windows are whistling, it is bitterly coldI need to get things going.  Please take care of yourselves, stay safe and stay well.  Ciao ciao for now.

Fun and games

Happy Monday folks on this the first Monday of the second half of 2020.  I am finding it really hard to get my head around the fact that this year has passed the halfway mark, it just seems to have gone poof on one hand and been endless on the other.  My sincere prayer is that the next six months are going to be infinitely better that the last few months.

Well, if I had to leave out all the drama of the week there would be no Blog today, I am going to highlight one or two 'almost funny' events and not go into too much detail on the not too funny times.  As you may have read last week, I somehow managed to hurt my back simply by sitting and sewing.  Hmmmm that pain just got worse until the point that I could hardly move in any direction.  Eventually on Thursday I went for a second injection to the Clinic Sister who promptly made me an appointment  with the Physio for the next day, thank the Lord that between the two of them I am now more or less pain free, still a niggle here and there but compared to what it was a 100 times better.  Yesterday however, I truly thought I was going to meet my Maker.  After breakfast I decided to take the immune booster pills I bought to ward off a threatening dose of flu.  Well to start with they are huge and chewable, but I don't like the taste so, with a little tea left in my mug I swallowed both, hmmmmm not a great idea.  One got lodged in my throat and nothing I did would move it, I could not breathe, get it down (tea would not go past) or get it out.  My dear Hubby quite literally saved my life as he thumped my back continuously until it dislodged, by that time Jelly Bean was involved as well.  It was one of the scariest things I have ever done and I can only thank the Lord that I was not alone, and my Hubby for being quick and persistent.  I tend to choke a lot but this was a different thing altogether, the resulting sore back is a memory that I might not have been here to write this today.  So, the moral of the story, for me, is always have more than enough liquid and BREAK big pills.  Sjooo enough drama.

On Tuesday I managed to get to the Hairdresser, after so long it was wonderful, after dropping Charlie off at the groomer, the fun started when I collected him.  Oh my goodness....... we have used the same groomer for four years and when I dropped him off only the assistant was there and said the owner was coming.  I specifically asked that he not be clipped short, just a clean up around his face, feet and claws, well ............... my poor little dog came back literally almost hairless.  He looked like a cross between a Chinese Crested and Dalmatian because he has black freckles.  I was flabbergasted and called my groomer to find out what on earth had happened.  She apparently, had an emergency and was unable to be there and so the assistant just went ahead, when she saw the pics I took she was mortified and pomisd the next groom, only done by her, will be on the house.  Poor little guy has no clue why all of a sudden the wind makes his skin tickle 🤦🏻‍♀️🐩.

Hubby had a busy week with his watches, he finished an A Frame book case that the Bears ordered and continuing to work on the deck as and when the weather permits.  He also ended up picking up a lot of extra duties with me being  'girl down', thank you my love and Jellybean Bean for all the help and patience this week.
The family are well, dealing with continued lockdown challenges here and there but on the whole everyone is doing well.  Princess went out on Saturday with her boyfriend's family and in keeping with family 'tradition' (from when we lived in Cradock, in the Karoo)  she successfully shot her first buck and was initiated accordingly. I think I am correct in saying that they are going to mount the head and also give her the biltong from her shoot. Well done  my angel like everything you do, you did a good job.  Thank the Lord she is not going back to school just yet and her school has handed out work to carry on with, there seems to be a lot of confusion and contradicting statements regarding students going back to school in general.

Well folks I am going to end off now, there was so much more that happened this week, it would take hours LOL.  Safe to say, I am still here, still smiling and thanking God for His infinite goodness and mercy.  From now on I am not going to make any 'predictions' as what kind of week I'm hoping for, I am going into this one trusting God for His protection, provision and presence.  Please look after yourselves, stay safe and stay healthy.  Ciao Ciao
