Surprise, surprise!!

Good morning friends and family I pray this finds you all well and ready for new adventures.
Well surprise, surprise ........ we had a quiet week hehehe, who knew it was even possible?
By comparison to most it was a quiet week although quite literally it did not start that way.  Last Sunday we periodically heard Max and sometimes Sasha barking non stop, on investigation we found they were barking at the underside of Hubby's car.  He looked inside and out and could not see anything untoward so we would bring them inside for awhile to calm them down, eventually towards evening they stopped and we heaved a sigh of relief in the silence.  Monday morning dawned and with it came all the high energy, frantic barking again, I thought perhaps there was a snake under the engine and again dear Hubby looked and found nothing, so after we had finished chores etc he went off to Kleinmond to the Library and then to get a few things from Spar.  About an hour after he came home Max was at it again and in total frustration he went out and re-opened the bonnet of the car and the moment he did he saw our little mongoose (from the Friday) slither into a little hidey hole amongst the engine.  This poor little mongoose had been in the engine for at least 24 hours that we are aware of, survived a trip with multiple stops to Kleinmond and back, he must have been completely terrified.   We left the bonnet open, put a bowl of water out under the car and brought the dogs inside once again, praying all the while that he would relocate himself to a safer place.  I also spoke to a chap from Cape Nature who told me that it is quite a common occurrence and that if we couldn't get him out they would find someone to help.  I am delighted to say that our little furry friend relocated - to the fynbos and rocks along the fence (I think) and apart from Max going ballistic once during the week we have had peace ever since.  Good heavens talk about excitement !!!!

I disappointingly had a pretty rough week health wise with constant nausea, among other things, which seems to be very stubborn and hard to shake.  My darling Hubby however managed to  finish painting  the ceiling in our bedroom, which is in the midst of a mini make over, it looks so different, thank you my love.  Now most of the work that's left is the soft furnishings and therefore up to me, hurry up body of mine and feel better.

We have had some really strange weather with very little wind which then raises the humidity levels, thankfully yesterday the South Easter made a re-appearance, thank You Lord, I hope it continues to blow as I have become addicted to having the air moving.  On Friday all three of us went into Kleinmond and did the weekly shopping by our 'divide and conquer ' method which gets it done in much less time, before colllapsing  back at home in the heat.

Other than producing some good meals and baking a batch of rusks,  I cannot lay claim to any other  major accomplishments for the week.  I sincerely hope and plan to accomplish more this week, so here is hoping and praying.  The family are all doing well and getting on with their lives and I can only give God all the praise and honour for having such a beautiful and precious family.

Folks I will take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful week, may it abound with blessings as well as opportunities for you to be a blessing to others.  Stay safe .  Ciao ciao.

My Life's Winding Roads: A productive week

A productive week

Good morning all you wonderful people, I hope you are all well rested and ready to tackle this week head on.  It seems that so much happens in the course of a week that sometimes I lose track of the days.  Yesterday we had our first real northerly gale wind blowing which was quite something, the frustration was that it was too strong to be outside or open any windows but equally hot inside.  Our area is under a High (Red) Fire alert at the moment with everything being dry and the wind so strong.  At 4 am in the morning a house burnt down, thankfully no one was injured but four cars and the house were destroyed.  The authorities do not know how it started, there are a few rumours  doing the rounds but I am sure we will find out in a couple of days what exactly happened, it was full of weekenders, so I should think a big shock for them as well as the owners.

The family are all doing well - Big Guy is loving his job and doing very well (he would like to be able to teleport to work and back though), Poppet and Princess likewise are super busy and thriving.  BigBear and BabyBear were able to spend the weekend together so I know they are happy and ready for the new week. Miss Muffet and family went ice skating on Saturday which looked like great fun, that was something I tried as a teenager and was hopeless at, I spent more time on my behind than on my feet.   Back here at the 'zoo' its been really hectic but, I achieved all I set out to do last week and Hubby is half way through painting the bedroom ceiling, it was knotty pine and now in the process of becoming white yaaaay.
I sewed and sewed and sewed but eventually managed to make arm rest covers for all the couches before setting my mind and energy to wrestling with 2 x 3 m x 150 cm wide into a throw for the 'new' couch.  Gee whiz that was fun......... so much material I wasn't even sure I would be able to get it all through the sewing machine.  I must admit that it is a bit big, no surprise haha, but it does cover all that needs to be covered.  Whilst I was working with the material - Mongolian fleece I could just imagine what it would be like to make that up into full length cape with a lined hoodie attached, similar to Little Red Riding Hood's one, it would be sheer bliss, so soft and furry and luxurious ..... oh one can dream.  I now just have to find the right fabric to make cushion covers all round, and also recover our headboard,  although I might wait a couple of weeks before starting that project.

Yesterday whilst we were sitting reading in the lounge a huge pigeon flew in through the deck doors, which caused a great stir with the cats.  He flew around a few times before flying straight out again, a tad wiser than the sugar birds who stay inside for hours, but when he left the two cats were sitting looking completely stunned as if to say " what on earth just happened?"   It always amazes me to watch the birds trying to land on the fence to drink, in the gale force winds, poor little things try so hard and either end up staying the in the same spot or being blown backwards in the wrong direction. Speaking about the wildlife, on Friday Jelly Bean and I saw a mongoose in the garden for the first time in about 2 years, it is so exciting to see in your own backyard. Then on the way into Somerset West on Friday she and I both saw a fin in the water whether it was a shark or dolphin we don't know but it caused much squealing from the both of us hehe.

This week I want to try out a new bread recipe, if it isn't a success I will post the recipe onto the Recipe page for you all to try.  With all the load shedding taking place at the moment I am keeping today's Blog short, I pray you all have a good week and please take a few minutes to share and spread some kindness and love around to those you come in contact with, you will never know what they are facing in their private lives.  Ciao ciao for now, please stay safe and always aware of your surroundings.

Planning does not always work

Happy Monday friends and family I hope everyone had a good weekend and you are all ready for the new week.  We had a fabulously quiet, restful weekend - surprise, surprise, let me say it was much needed.

At the outset allow me to say that not surprisingly our week did not go as planned, but was nevertheless a good week.  I had major plans to make covers for the arms of 'the' couch and make a throw to fit it but, naturally none of that happened hehe.  On Tuesday my dear Hubby went into Somerset West to do a couple of errands which included collecting my new glasses, I went for my first eyetests since all the laser surgery and eye operations and although my eyes have deteriorated a little it has not been enough to warrant wearing glasses full time, hallelujah.  I only need them for watching TV, driving and then of course reading.  Hubby then went to collect the white fleece I had ordered and then all his other stops.  When he got home and we opened the fleece material up I was thoroughly annoyed to find that it was a sand colour and not even close to being anywhere near white, aaarrggghhh.  I called and the guy was very friendly and has offered to refund us for it, so thank goodness for that.

I'm sure most of you will remember that a couple of weeks ago we had a problem with the caravan freezer going off and us losing the entire contents.   Even though I cleaned thoroughly with both soap and bleach there was still a really bad smell in the van.  Hubby had to lift the floor tiles  where the mess had seeped underneath and then spent most of the week cleaning the glue off the floor and laying down new floor tiles, hopefully this will help us sell it even quicker, but shame it was a really big job.  Thank you my love the new floor looks fabulous.

On Thursday I spent most of the day with a wonderful lady who came through to do a home check for the Poodle Rescue group.  She brought one of her own dogs with and we spent a wonderful day getting to know each other, I also just fell more in love with the poodle breed, I truly cannot wait to get my new baby.  Being a rescue there is  obviously no timeline but every day that goes by is one day closer.  Max and Sasha were perfectly behaved, apart from the fact that in the last week Max managed to get out of the yard about five times including the day of the visit  #facepalm.  He has not done this for months and we have now once again blocked up all the visible holes so hopefully that little jaunt of his is now over.

Sadly Thursday's visit left me exhausted but on Friday off we trundled to Hermanus where we had a number of things to do including grocery shopping,  before  going to some friends of ours who used to live in BB and are now in Hermanus and whom we haven't seen since last year.  It was wonderful to catch up D & E, thank you.    I can in no way claim that I had a 'good' day on Friday hahaha.  I made SO many mistakes and had so many 'blonde' (sorry to all the blondes) moments it was ridiculous.  I am not going into details because you would all probably think I need professional help LOL.

Yesterday for the first time in longer than I can remember I made a ciabatta bread to add to our supper and to be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed making it, I really must do more baking.  I am tentatively going to say that this week I hope to be finishing the throw and arm covers for our sofas, perhaps we might even get to do a bit more.  We are planning on painting the ceiling of our bedroom, recovering the headboard and a few other changes.

Happily, even though we have had some incredibly hot days it has cooled down just a little which I hope and pray will continue for some time.  We really have had a most unusual summer and it has been fabulous.

Well folks that my news in a nutshell, or the highlights thereof.  I wish you all a wonderful week ahead, please take time for yourselves, time to breathe and smell the 'roses' and above all stay safe out there.  Ciao ciao.

My Life's Winding Roads: Heat and Loadshedding

My Life's Winding Roads: Heat and Loadshedding: Good morning everyone on this very hot, still and humid Monday.  Being a little 'slow' I did not factor in the loadshdding that star...

Heat and Loadshedding

Good morning everyone on this very hot, still and humid Monday.  Being a little 'slow' I did not factor in the loadshdding that started at 10 am #facepalm, so I have joined the heights of technical brilliance  and am doing this using my mobile phone as a hotspot, which is a first.  As well as the fact that I am waiting for my new reading glasses!  today's Blog is going to be shorter than normal.

Another busy week behind us as we finally finished the new couch, such a mission but it is a blessing.  Apart from a small alteration that I thought about this morning at 4.30  and making a throw to fit it, it is now complete.  Great fun was had by my dear Hubby and I on Wednesday as we bent over the bath mixing foam chips and filler for the back cushions, that was until I bent over wrong and managed to put my back out, ouch !!!    That kind of kept me quiet for the next couple of days as movement was quite restricted, as well as the fact that on Thursday night as I climbed into bed Jasper decided it was 'eat mom' time and attacked my arm leaving me with nasty bites and deep scratches, sometimes it just gets too much and I was literally on the verge of tears.  Be that as it may I am fine, treated the bites which had gone a bit nasty and on Saturday I popped into the Clinic Sister at our pharmacy and she gave me a Voltaren jab, the difference is amazing, my back is 98% better, the bites are healing and I am being super cautious around my temperamental cat.  It remains a mystery why he does it, because although he is known to bite if annoyed I am the only one that he attacks out of the blue and with a vengeance..

Due to our caravan freezer being off for those three days and everything going bad, Hubby is going to replace the floor of the caravan as there is still a slight smell and we are wanting to sell it as soon as we can.  As we said to each other last week, the 'things' just keep piling up and even though we /he works steadily down the list it never seems to get any shorter hehe.

Currently we are having somewhat of a heatwave, there is not a breath of air and the Christmas beetles and a dove are the only sounds I can hear, there is a mist covering the sea and most of the mountains.  There is truly no better or more beautiful place to live, even with the heat, which thankfully down here is short lived.

I had a call from the Poodle Rescue lady to tell me that I am 'next' on the list for a Toy Poodle rescue and am waiting to hear from her today or tomorrow as to when she will be coming through to meet us and do a home visit,  it is all very exciting.  We had a couple of incidents with Max getting out this past week and saw the distress that it causes Sasha, she goes into a total melt down, and have now realized that by getting my Poodle rescue sooner rather than later it will help Sasha to bond with it to some degree so that when Maxi is no longer here she will hopefully not be quite so stressed.

Folks as I said a shorter catch up this week, I wish you and yours a wonderful week, please stay safe and make the most of every day, remember, tomorrow is never guaranteed, it is a gift, never miss an opportunity to tell those you treasure that you love them or to be kind to a stranger, you never know what they may be going through.  Ciao ciao
